Lopez is an executive producer of ABC Family's drama "The Fosters," which debuts at 9 p.m. EDT Monday. The channel says the actress and singer will be live-tweeting from her (at)JLo account during the episode.

"The Fosters" is about a lesbian couple who are parents to a brood that includes adopted twins and a foster child. The cast includes Teri Polo of the "Meet the Parents" movie franchise.

SERIOUS Investing: The last of the consumer stocks

Kenanga called it a hidden gem and put a target price of RM1.50. I do not put a target price in my blog (as I do not think of my purchases and sale this way). I however would not go so far to call it a hidden gem. A hidden gem is a precious stone which nobody have yet to find.

Yee Lee is a very old consumer stock which have been rather consistent i.e. in being profitable. The bulk of its business is in the trading and manufacturing of edible oil in Malaysia. If it is a gem, what are the products that it does. So here it is as below. Which one you think is the Star among the list of products? Helang. Vesawit and maybe the other edible oil products. I do not think the Sabah Tea and Morning Kiss are much of a value. Besides the below, it also owns an associate stake in Spritzer - a very decent drinking water brand.

Now, what makes me feel like wanting to write about this stock. It is again probably a boring stock. It is hidden among many investors but is it a hidden gem? Currently at RM1.20, it is trading at RM212 million market cap. Given that the company has been around for so many years, I would say it has come a long way. The business that it is in is rather competitive, but Yee Lee has proven to be able to be equal among the others. It may not have the brand strength as Knife (Lam Soon) or perhaps the balance sheet strength of Neptune (under Robert Kuok's PPB), but it has survived and well alive.

How?

If you look at the above 5 year financial highlights and inclusive of its better performance in FY2012, it has done pretty well for the last 5 years from 2008 to 2012. The first quarter results for FY2013 is even better achieving PAT of somewhere around RM8 million for the quarter.

Now, I want to highlight another segment which is in the second red boxed. Not the ROE though. Do not expect the ROE to be good for a business with refinery like Yee Lee. Margin is not expected to be good and we cannot expect business like this to have a ROE of 15%. If ROE is the main indicator, walk away as Yee Lee will never provide this figure as long as it is selling edible oil.

A very important trend is the Net debt to equity ratio. If we look way to the right, it was not doing so well there in terms of its health of its balance sheet. A business like Yee Lee is where it buys crude palm oil or Fresh Fruit Bunch, crush them and turn them into refined oil, brand them and sell. To do that, it needs to use some financing to purchase the raw bunch (it also use the financing for terms provided to retailers). This is where mainly the net debt is from, not overly worrying but if its balance sheet is not strong, it will need to finance it longer or even at a higher rate.

Walk through the left, that indicator which is the net debt to equity has gotten much stronger. Partly to do with the shareholders funds getting bigger as well as a much controlled short term financing. This is also to do with better collection, which could be internal as well as a healthier overall industry - AEON, Giant, Tesco probably pay earlier. Another indicator which is my favorite is cashflow.

If you look above where I have included 2012 numbers for Net cash from operating activities. You can look at the record from 2008 onward from the above chart. It shows a huge improvement. A better cashflow despite the consistency of profitability is very important. Better collection means, lesser bank borrowings as compared to turnover. It hence means lower interest costs. Why did I highlight the depreciation? This is because in a operating cashflow, the depreciation following accounting principle where the earlier or continuous investment will need to be depreciated over a period of time. It is not a cashflow item.

What makes me excited? The better cashflow although I doubt it will achieve another RM64 million of net operating cashflow for FY2013 would probably mean better balance sheet (again), hence better profits as financing costs will be lower and hopefully better dividend as well. As usual I do not know where it stands in terms of wanting to pay and its strategy moving forward, but the much better balance sheet is something which we can appreciate.

Yee Lee has gone up to RM1.20. Frankly, at one point of time few years ago, around RM0.70 I took a look and deemed its balance sheet as not attractive but with the trend of its cashflow and strengthened balance sheet, I am relooking at the business and where it stands.

The business is rather consistent, the lower the crude palm oil price, it probably would be better for Yee Lee, as in current situation. But even if the price of palm oil gets higher, the subsidy from government would have allowed companies like Yee Lee to still be profitable. And, I do not think the subsidy for palm based edible oil would be taken away as by doing so, it would be negative to the country and probably allow other types of edible oil to be more competitive against palm oil based edible oil. It would be inflationary as well.

The gist of it, Yee Lee is a smallish consumer stock, with a rather steady business, decent balance sheet, positioning in terms of its brand and at its current valuation of around 8x PE, I definitely do not think it is expensive.

Are nutritional labels coming on alcoholic drinks

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Alcoholic beverages soon could have nutritional labels like those on food packaging, but only if the producers want to put them there.

The Treasury Department, which regulates alcohol, said this past week that beer, wine and spirits companies can use labels that include serving size, servings per container, calories, carbohydrates, protein and fat per serving. Such package labels have never before been approved.

The labels are voluntary, so it will be up to beverage companies to decide whether to use them on their products.

The decision is a temporary, first step while the Alcohol and Tobacco Trade and Tax Bureau, or TTB, continues to consider final rules on alcohol labels. Rules proposed in 2007 would have made labels mandatory, but the agency never made the rules final.

The labeling regulation, issued May 28, comes after a decade of lobbying by hard liquor companies and consumer groups, with clearly different goals.

The liquor companies want to advertise low calories and low carbohydrates in their products. Consumer groups want alcoholic drinks to have the same transparency as packaged foods, which are required to be labeled.

"This is actually bringing alcoholic beverages into the modern era," says Guy Smith, an executive vice president at Diageo, the world's largest distiller and maker of such well-known brands as Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Jose Cuervo and Tanqueray.

Diageo asked the bureau in 2003 to allow the company to add that information to its products as low-carbohydrate diets were gaining in popularity.

Almost 10 years later, Smith said he expects Diageo gradually to put the new labels on all of its products, which include a small number of beer and wine companies.

"It's something consumers have come to expect," Smith said. "In time, it's going to be, why isn't it there?"

Not all alcohol companies are expected to use labels. Among those that may take a pass are beer companies, which don't want consumers counting calories, and winemakers, which don't want to ruin the sleek look of their bottles.

The Wine Institute, which represents more than a thousand California wineries, said in a statement that it supports the ruling but "experience suggests that such information is not a key factor in consumer purchase decisions about wine."

Spokeswoman Gladys Horiuchi said the group knows of no wine companies that plan to use the new labels.

The beer industry praised the agency for acknowledging that labels should take into account variations in the concentration of alcohol content in different products.

The industry has opposed the idea of defining serving size by fluid ounces of pure alcohol ? or as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor ? on the grounds that you may get more than 1.5 ounces of liquor in a cocktail depending on what else is in the drink and the accuracy of the bartender.

The ruling would allow the labels to declare alcohol content as a percentage of alcohol by volume, the approach favored by the beer industry.

"We applaud the TTB's conclusion that rules be based on how drinks are actually served and consumed," said Joe McClain, president of the Beer Institute.

McClain said the beer industry is pleased that the ruling provides "substantial flexibility" in terms of the format and placement of the disclosure on packaging.

It is unclear whether beer companies will actually use the labels, however.

Consumer advocates criticized the regulation.

"It doesn't reflect any concern about public health," said Michael Jacobson, director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest. He said the rules are too close to what the alcohol companies had sought.

Consumer advocates have said that listing alcohol content should be mandatory so consumers know how much they are drinking. Jacobson and others also support having calorie counts on labels, but they said the labels should not include nutrients that make the alcohol seem more like a food.

"Including fat and carbohydrates on a label could imply that an alcoholic beverage is positively healthful, especially when the drink's alcohol content isn't prominently labeled," Jacobson said.

Current labeling law is complicated.

Wines containing 14 percent or more alcohol by volume must list alcohol content. Wines that are 7 percent to 14 percent alcohol by volume may list alcohol content or put "light" or "table" wine on the label. "Light" beers must list calorie and carbohydrate content only. Liquor must list alcohol content by volume and may also list proof, a measure of alcoholic strength.

Wine, beer and liquor manufacturers don't have to list ingredients but must list substances people might be sensitive to, such as sulfites, certain food colorings and aspartame.

Tom Hogue of the TTB said the aim of the ruling is to make sure alcohol labeling is more consistent. "The idea here is we are trying to make it easy for the industry to communicate this with consumers if they want to do so, and if their consumers want them to do it," he said.

What Children Gain from The Homeschooling Environment

The act of homeschooling has become an accepted method to provide an education to children. Some countries, including the US, have given parents this choice and it is legally accepted. There are many reasons why some parents prefer this as a sound alternative to either public or private school education. You may find a range of reasons cited by parents who home school their children. For example, their children can learn better and achieve higher academic performance. Many parents are dismayed the overall environment characteristic of so many schools. But this choice could even be a result of the family living in more rural areas. We will cover several often-cited benefits of teaching children in the homeschool classroom.

The popularity of homeschooling has caused an entire cottage industry to develop. Many families who are in a position to provide this alternative are choosing to follow this path. What has been continuing to happen are organizations are forming to provide additional resources and support to parents and children. One example is the formation of classes outside the home that act as a source of enrichment. Particular subjects are offered specifically for homeschool children. Other valuable offerings are being seen such as social and sports activities for these children. Practically every adult is painfully reminded of the intense levels of peer pressure in schools. High school can be an incredible time for any child due to various types of this social pressure. There is a high amount of negative potential influences every day at any kind of school outside the home. Obviously, all of that can be completely negated when the child is educated at home. There are no destructive forms of criticism or assaults on a child's self-esteem at home. That alone can allow any child room to grow and develop without unhealthy consequences of the influence of other children.

The homeschooling parent is in a strong position to help their children grow at a more normal and healthy rate. There is so much early exposure outside the home to all types of negativity. Many parents rightly feel that so many things are too much for any child to learn about too early. Beyond that, many young children are unable to effectively cope with the harsh realities of the world. The child who is educated at home should not be ignorant of the world. However, the parent/teacher can inform their children about the world at a more appropriate age. That is something that holds a great appeal to many parents and understandably so. Perhaps one of the effects of allowing children to grow up too fast is they can become insensitive to the world around them. Many people do not feel that children should be exposed to themes and topics that are best left to grown adults. The simple truth is that a child should be able to cope with certain ideas and topics in a healthy and balanced way.
