Regulations for Halibut Sizes in Ketchikan ? Your Alaska Halibut ...

Have you observed how Halibut fishing in Alaska turned for its worst? You can start to count the Alaska Fish and Game requiring fishing licenses to be more expensive. This is even applicable for the Alaska halibut fishing charter. And what is more, they are only allowing halibut to be caught less than 37 inches. What was that for? Come to think, it is not even good for charter operators and regular fisherman. Although I am not totally saying that fishing in Alaska will be totally a no-fun experience at all. It is just that the new regulations are limiting the charter boats entry to places where big halibuts can be found.

The Alaska halibut fishing charter are there to help you around roam the different fishing spots in Alaska. But it needs permits where you are probably allowed to have around 22.7 pounds of halibut.

If you have one of this fish per day, it will only yield about 40 percent of the fish meat total weight. That would create huge impact to the tourists and visitors who are coming to the state of Alaska. And so in return, the fishermen charters will need to request for higher prices. It will also mean that they may be less available during the busier parts of the fishing season.

More likely, the Alaska halibut fishing charter boats will change the huge pictures of halibut on their brochures and just let the visitors see those that are released. But there are a lot of people who are a big fan of catch and release so you may be able to enjoy this part of your journey. So, instead of really taking a big fish home, the clients will just actually think about the catch and release fun. I just don't know if there will be a lot of people to break for these silly rules.

For instance, the anglers may be forced to catch for the bottom fish such as the Lingcod, rockfish and the red snapper as well. And there is also another option which is to catch for big salmons.

When you rent for a boat in Ketchikan, you may be able to fish on your own. But if things will be more challenging, it is better to go with a group with Alaska halibut fishing charter where you can rely with a help from the charter staff and captain.? Perhaps, time can only tell if the new regulations in Alaska Ketchikan will be of advantage to their tourism industry.
